Porcupine Gorge

Porcupine Gorge

Magnetic Island Photos isn’t all about Maggie, beautiful and perfect though it is.

MIP is also and maybe more importantly, about teaching and enjoying photography. I taught a visiting guest the basics of Landscape Photography during a 5 day road trip out to Porcupine Gorge.

The gorge is a solid days drive from Townsville, but once there, the peace and quiet is wonderful. Arriving late, we spotted this Rufous Bettong and got a quick shot of him/her as he/she was sniffing around.

Whilst I love my big Nikon gear, the ease of hiking with my small Nikon 1 V3 was rather enjoyable. It works very well in good light. Whilst obviously using it to its best abilities, the images do show that camera size doesn’t always matter! My client used her phone for her images, but that was what she preferred and uses all the time. So we worked on composition and exposure, to get the best out of the device, and the user.

My clients iPhone photo of the day… Winner!

The weather was amazing, and although the gorge had little water, it allowed for the amazing erosion shapes in the rocks to be seen.

I look forward to a few more road trips and maybe also shooting some amazing images with you soon.

Happy snapping..!

Kobie.
