The amazing Featherstar, shot with careful, creative lighting

The Fantastic Featherstar

Delicate and beautiful.

The many arms of the Featherstar have some amazing colours.

I have shot them quite often. As a largely static subject, they’re fairly easy to frame up and capture.

A colourful Featherstar on the side of the Moltke Wreck in Geoffrey Bay.

Using some creative lighting however, allowed me to create one of my most favourite images, as featured at the top of this post.

I set a low strobe power setting and positioned it just above the Featherstar to throw just enough light onto it to illuminate a small area, leaving the rest to fade to black.

Creative lighting underwater. A challenge, but a very satisfying one when successful.

Happy bubbles!
