Kites & Sea Eagles

Crane your necks and look up as we search for Kites and Sea Eagles on a wildlife photography day out.

Magnetic Island is home to a large number of our feathered friends.  They include a number of species of Kites and Sea Eagles.

On this wildlife shoot, we will be on the lookout for these magnificent birds of prey. The distinctive orange Brahminy Kite is an easy one for you to identify.

Also, the aptly-named Whistling Kite is easily heard with its distinctive call.  Eastern Osprey photography is another great way to spend the day.

All three species will be soaring over Alma Bay and Picnic Bay. They will also be up at Hawkings Point which is great vantage point to observe and photograph them all from.

Currently there are no specific dates set, as I have found most people contact me to request their own class. So please feel free to email me, or call/sms/WhatsApp on 0436 289 402 to discuss your bespoke class.

All about the Kites & Sea Eagles.

As with everything wild nothing is guaranteed from a photographic point of view. However, Hawkings Point is a great site to set up and shoot from. We will see what we can see!

Shooting them flying from Hawkings Point can yield an amazing shot when achieved.

I will have a few cameras with long lenses with me. One small hand-holdable Nikon 1 V3 with a 70-300mm (180-810mm equivalent; a hikers dream!).

Also the large, heavy but stunning D4 and 400mm f2.8VR lens. Plus the even larger D5 and 600mm f4 lens. Both will be set up on tripods with gimbal heads.

And of course, bring whatever gear you have. We can see what can get!

(Of course, a GoPro or an iPhone is probably not ideal for this though!)

Happy snapping!
