Half Moon Photography
Winter has long gone, and the wet season days are hot and humid. However, the cooler night air is beautiful, and makes a great change to the hotter days. Perfect for being out and enjoying some half moon and also full moon photography. It’s time to look to the stars!
On the night of the half moon I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for a nice clear, cloud-free night. That way we should be able to shoot some cracking, sharp, well-exposed images of the mysterious half moon..
Dates have been scheduled, but if they happen to not be ideal for you, and you wish to request a specific date, please feel free to email me.
I’m always happy to workout a bespoke shoot for keen photogs!

Even though Magnetic Island is close to Townsville, it is in a fairly good location for low light-pollution.
The far end of Horseshoe Bay is nicely ‘shaded’ by Mt Cook and my favourite location to set up for star-trails, Milky Way or moon shots.
A personal favourite is the Waning Gibbous Moon… a near-half moon. There’s something mysterious about not seeing all of it, and I kinda like the shots I have take of the half-moon maybe even more than the full moon.
We will also be out on the nights around the new moon. Again, fingers crossed for a typical winters cloudless night, so we can shoot the amazing Milky Way in all its glory, and/or set up for a few hundred still shots to be complied into a stunning star-trail image.
Be sure to pencil in those dates, and let’s see what we can shoot!
The following will be included:
- A fun, friendly evening out in a casual yet professional environment.
- Some back-up camera equipment on a first-come first-served basis.
